I also like the idea of each individual of a species having some variation, even if it's only slight. That's how it works in real life, after all - slight genetic variations leading to differences in appearance. Quite significant differences for humans since we can have wildly different clothing and hair style preferences. Isn't too much of a jump to think that pokemon might have their own quirks too.
